The Power of Creativity: Healing Beyond Words
At the heart of Everyone’s Everest is the belief that creativity is a vital tool for resilience. Aligned with the NHS 5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing, our project embraces "Learning a New Skill" and "Taking Notice" through a rich tapestry of creative arts.
Our journey into the arts began with a national poetry competition for veterans and the Armed Forces community, providing a platform for creative writing as a path to healing. The winning poem, narrated by the iconic Dame Joanna Lumley, was eventually transformed into a powerful single by Ward Thomas, the UK’s leading country duo.
The winning poem:
Winner: Major (Retd) Fiona Crouch
Becoming Enough
Before me, stands a mountain,
Real? Imagined? Yet so near.
I grit my teeth to face it
Despite my nagging fear
That failure will consume me,
Prove me weak and not so tough.
Imposter syndrome means
I am clearly not enough.
A pause; I’m stranded.
Paralysed, I freeze;
Until I hear the birdsong
And the trees rustling in the breeze.
I am suddenly in the moment
To conquer mountains that I find.
It’s real! I take a step towards it -
Success is on my mind.
Further creative expressions in the film:

Traditional Art: Our opening titles were hand-painted in watercolour and animated by expedition artist Tom Napper FRGS, who uses his craft to advocate for mental health. www.tomnapper.com
-
Global Harmony: We celebrate the universal language of music through traditional Nepali folk melodies and the evocative flute of Sange Sherpa, highlighting how melody connects us across all cultures. Sange's flute can be heard in the title track in the credits too. sange-sherpa.com
